How the CSA works

Three steps, then dinner changes.

Choose a size

Solo, Classic, or Abundance. Switch sizes once mid-season, no drama, no forms.

Pick your pickup spot

The farm stand on Friday or Saturday, or either market. Your box waits, labeled, under the canopy.

Eat with the season

June is greens and promises. August buries you in tomatoes. October brings squash and sweet roots. The box follows the field, not a spreadsheet.

Pay for the season up front or in two halves, June and August. Early money buys seed and fixes the tractor. That is the point of a CSA.

The board is real.

Rewritten every Sunday night from the day's harvest notes. If the corn is done, the board says so. No stock list, no vegetables we do not grow.

The farm

Two farmers, twelve acres, sixty-some crops.

Furrow is creek-bottom loam at the foot of the Halloway hills, farmed since 2019 by Nell Marsh and Dario Peck. They met washing salad greens on somebody else's farm, found they could argue about plant spacing without ruining dinner, and put a deposit on a used tractor.

Nell runs the greenhouse and the crop plan. Dario runs the wash station, the markets, and the radio. Between them, some sixty crops a year, picked the day you get them or the evening before.

No spray

No synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. Not certified organic either; the paperwork costs more than our seed order. Ask us the hard questions at the stand.

Soil first

Cover crops all winter, compost by the truckload, tillage shallow and rare. Good dirt does most of the work. We try not to interrupt it.

Small on purpose

Twelve acres is what two people can farm well. Some weeks things sell out. We would rather run out than mail it in.

U-pick flowers

July through September, the zinnia and dahlia rows at the top of the drive are yours. Ten dollars a jar, snips in the coffee can, honor box on the post.

Good to know

A working farm, so mud is a feature. Boots recommended, kids welcome, dogs on leashes. The wash-station hose is not a toy. It is, a little.
